Previously, the Daytona was only available in two stainless steel models: a panda white dial and a black dial. But now, things are different. More precisely, different in a certain way. At Watches & Wonders 2026, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Oyster case, Rolex will release a new and extremely rare Daytona watch, model 126502. This watch is destined not to appear in the product catalog, and at least part of the case is made of stainless steel.
Rolex calls this material Rolesium. Don't mistake it for a brand new patented alloy; it has actually been around for some time, though it seems to have been forgotten. The name Rolesium was first registered by Hans Wilsdorf in 1932 and is currently used for the 40mm Yacht-Master watch, which features an Oystersteel case with a platinum bezel. This new Rolesium Daytona watch is exactly like that: a 40mm stainless steel case with a platinum bezel and a platinum sapphire crystal transparent case back. Yes, you read that right, a stainless steel Daytona watch with a transparent case back. The bezel is noteworthy for another reason. It's worth noting that Rolex hasn't explicitly mentioned this watch, but the resemblance is breathtaking.
I still find it somewhat unusual to describe a Daytona watch like this: turning it over to reveal the intricate workings of the Caliber 4131 chronograph movement through the sapphire crystal case back. This case back design, derived from the top-tier platinum model, features a large, solid sapphire crystal window secured with a threaded platinum ring, further reinforcing Rolex's "Rolesium" concept. As a high-volume column-wheel chronograph movement, it boasts exceptional performance, a 72-hour power reserve, Paraflex shock protection, and a blue Parachrom hairspring. While I'm not entirely satisfied with the case back design, the movement's decoration is exquisite, including the skeletonized gold rotor and the Rolex Geneva stripes typically hidden within the case back; these details are often easily overlooked. Finally, the Rolesium Daytona 126502 comes with a beautiful three-link stainless steel Oyster bracelet. Its finish is the same as other steel models, with brushed outer links and mirror-polished middle links. It is paired with a top-of-the-line folding clasp, the center section of which is also polished to match the clasp's style, and includes a 5mm extension link for emergencies.
